Archive for July, 2009

Let me start off by saying, that you, my dear readers, are awesome. You really know how to make a little thick haired southern gal feel good about her strands. I mean, the compliments were lovely. And many. And I enjoyed them all. Cause I am humble like that. So thank you.

Also, Cecily would like to thank everyone for their kind comments as to her performance. She actually didn’t say that, but we are teaching her to be polite, so she should say that. She did give me a hug for putting her on Youtube and exclaimed, and I quote “Thank you so much! I’m going to be famous!”. Yes, she is quite humble also.

I also got a few compliments on my shirt.

Me: Barefoot and preggers with a fiber baby. Klassy.

That particular shirt came from a little place I like to call Tarjay, just cause that sounds fancy and all. Some people also call it Target. Anyhoo, apparently they do not carry that particular shirt anymore, but they do have several more right here that I think are just as nice. If not nicer. Is that my credit card screaming?

And moving on.

From compliments to work outs.

After coffee of course.

  • Level 2 of the shred
  • 20 minute run (2+ miles)
  • 20 minute power yoga

Morning workout = Muy bueno.

Tropical Oats, the remix!

  • 1/4 cup steel cut oats
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup mandarin orange juice
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 2 pineapple rings
  • mandarin oranges
  • apricots
  • dates
  • pecans
  • coconut

Muy deliciousio*.

*May not be an actual word. Of course what do I care? I often use words that are not actual words. I just wanted to clarify in case you were thinking I was fluent in Italian or Spanish or something. I am not.

While I was enjoying my oatmeal, I was also enjoying this sight:

Sometimes I just want to yell at people. But I don’t.

I just pass them on the right, all the while making furious hand gestures.

Or not.

Cause that would be illegal.

But fun.

Anyway, I got to work alright, if a few minutes late.

I got some work done. A lot of work done actually. But no one cares about that.

They’d rather hear of my road rage.

Or my lunch.

Mug of lentils, once again.

This time on a bed of spinach and topped with hummus.

Smack, smack.

No, that is not me hitting some one on the butt.

That is me eating that lentil salad thing.

Crunch, crunch. Crunchy carrots + more hummus.

And because a meal would not be complete without them:

Cherries! (I refrained myself from tying the stems in knots this time.)

Mug + plate. So matchy – matchy. I am in love.

So, anyone have fun plans this weekend?

I am supposed to go see Nickelback, given the rain clears. If not, well I will just dance in the rain I suppose.

Ok, so my list grew.

And frankly I am done with numbering and checking it off. I would rather skip right to the eating.

TJ’s edamame crackers and 1/2 nectarine.

Which were had about 3:30.

Home around 6, and I snacked on a few apricots and more edamame.

I kind of like edamame products.

I also slam forgot about Linden’s b-day dinner. Birthdays call for lots of pictures around our household.

Meredith, Linden, Whit.

Whit, Meredith, Linden, Sabrina and Cecily. How did I end up the (potentially) shortest, despite being the oldest?

Cecily provided some pre dinner entertainment.

For your viewing pleasure:

Classic stuff, I tell you.

Some people ate chicken. I went with Mr. Hugh Jass myself.

  • spinach
  • lentils
  • corn chile salsa
  • spicy yogurt sauce
  • blue chips.

Plus I snacked on some cherries.

I ate loads, so I could perform my best talent.

Tying cherry stems with my tongue.

Klassy. That I am.

Meredith was so envious.

She just does not have the talent.

After all that fruit and greens, I was definitely feeling the fiber baby.

What can I say?

Nothing. I just ate some cake. x2

There goes the no sweets week. Threw that one out the window.

Hope you enjoyed this klassy cake eating, fiber baby, guitar playing, cherry stem tying celebration. I did.

Oh, and…God put a rainbow in the sky. For MEEEEEEEEEEEE. (If you don’t get that scroll back up and watch the video. It’s worth it.)

I have many things to mark off my list today.

1. Make coffee. Drink coffee.

2. Wish my fabulous sister Linden a great 19th birthday! I remember the day you were born. I guess that makes me old. It’s also the birthday of Healthy Tipping Point. Yay Caitlin! Making lives better for a year now.

3. Get a great run in. 4 miles at sunrise, nothing like it.

4. Marathon Val nominated me in a list of favorite bloggies. I guess since I am playing catch up I should do the same. Excluding the obvious, here is my list:

Yeah, these are the girls that rock my world, whether it be a funny poem, beautiful writing, great pictures, kick butt workouts or just plain funny shiz.

Love ‘em.

For the whole list, look over to the right. Those are the blogs I read daily. I enjoy all of them, but it seems a little ridic to put them all in this post. Which is why I honored the few. The proud. The…well the few. And proud.

5. Shower

6. Eat breakfast…whew, I am just now getting to breakfast?

Yogurt + cereal + fruit bowl = YUM!

  • vanilla greek yogurt
  • kashi crunch
  • apricots
  • bloobs
  • blackbs
  • 1/2 nectarine
  • flax

Serious brekkie, right there.

7. Drive to work. Manage to not spill yogurt, fruit or cereal on oneself.

8. Do work. blah. blah. blah.

Now there are many things on that plate. I realize they are mostly a shade of orange, but that is not the point. The point is this:

  • arugula
  • 1/2 tomato
  • 1 LC Cheese
  • hummus
  • 1 slice provolone cheese
  • 1 flatout

All melty and gooey and oh my! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

The accessories to this fantabulous wrap were respectively:

Rainier Cherries

More juicy peach.

Juicy, juicy peach. Oh how I love thee.

Now my list.

  1. Done
  2. Done
  3. Done
  4. Done
  5. Done
  6. Done
  7. Done
  8. Done
  9. Done

Hopefully the rest of my list does not get much longer than:

  1. Snack
  2. Dinner
  3. Bed

QOTD: What is your favorite summer fruit?

As you can see, I have been consuming mass quantities of the stuff of late, but I must say my favorite is those rainier cherries. Oh baybay.

See ya back here tonight to finish that list!

So my great day continued when my boss walked in with a bag of juicy peaches.

I immediately grabbed one to pair with my applesauce that I had brought for a snack.

Applesauce + peach is much better than applesauce + dcd.

My fruitiness continued:

On my way to yoga, I snacked on this fiberful to tide me over until dinner, as I knew I would not get home until around 8:30.

I also stopped at TJ’s and picked up the essentials. Greens, fruit, almond milk, blue chips, corn chile salsa.

So fully stocked I knew dinner was gonna be Hugh Jass.

Hugh Jass salad and Mini Jass snack plate.

Hugh Jass contained:

  • arugula
  • spinach
  • dried fruit
  • almonds
  • bloobs
  • TJ’s raspberry dressing

I actually tried this dried fruit mix in it:

meh. It was ok. I have never had hibiscus flowers nor pomelo until this evening. Quite the experience.

Hibiscus flowers do make a pretty salad.

See all the red? Yeah, that is flowers. I think I prefer my flowers in a vase, Mama D style.

Mini Jass snack plate on the other hand was a hit.

blue chips + corn chile salsa

rainier cherries

Kiwi, eaten Meghann style. Skin and all. YUM!

A pretty tasty end to a really good day. Yoga was yummy too…1 hour and 15 minutes of chaturangas, crow, half moon, and splits. Lots of splits. Standing, chinese, you name it we split it. I actually hit quite a milestone tonight in my yoga practice. I got my right leg behind my head. Woot woot! Look at this lil’ yogini go!

There’s a great day coming, a great day coming,
There’s a great day coming by and by,
When the saints and the sinners shall be parted right and left,
Are you ready for that day to come

Psalm 59:17 (The Message)

I can always count on you— God, my dependable love.

I will see you guys tomorrow, for hopefully an even better day!

So, as I tweeted earlier, my day started off great! Sorry for reiterating that, if yours is not going so swell. MINE IS GOING GREAT.

I started with a cup of java to get me going about oh, 5:45 am. Around 6ish I met up with some Jillian, aka Level 2 of the shred and then moved to the elliptical for 20 minutes. I was a hot sweaty mess.

So all hot sweaty messes have to cool off some way, right?

It really was green, despite the pink cup.

mmmmm, green goop. Lurve it!

To make your own green goop:

  • 4 cups spinach
  • 1 frozen naner
  • 1 scoop whey protein
  • 1 scoop dark chocolate dreams
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • misc. blueberries
  • ice

Give it a whirl in the VitaMix, yo!

So, like all us poor slobs who have to work for a livin’ I bounced into work and did some. Work that is.

I also found this:

Ummmm, could this day get any better???

Yes it can.

What’s in that mug?

This one?

Yeah, that’s not coffee in that there mug.

Right you are!

‘twould be lentil + spinach pitas, blue & black berries.

Why do I eat pitas out of bowls, or in this case mugs?

So I can clean up the leftovers, o’ course.

Just call me vacuum.

Or wacko. My friends do.

How is your day going my friends? Crazy good? (emphasis on crazy)

And I thought my eats couldn’t get any better.

Well, apples and chocolate soybeans are not exactly earth shattering, but they are darn tasty.

Really what I am speaking of comes later.

But first I must report that I ran a very sweaty 4.5 miles in the 93 degree heat. I tweeted as to whether I should or not, but I don’t think anyone really cared as I got no response. I’m pretty much awesome like that. Also my picture was blurry, so maybe no one could tell what I was talking about? Yeah, that’s probably it.

So I came home guzzled an Aquafina and did some strength moves.

  • 10 chest presses
  • 10 bent over rows
  • 10 bicep curls
  • 10 tricep extensions
  • 10 shoulder raises

This circuit x3 with 8 lb weights.

So although sweaty, I was also quite hangry, so I put some lentils on to simmer while I cooled off with a fruit appetizer.

Froze fruit + yogurt x2

What can I say? It was that good.

I also took some pics of Mama D’s newest bouquet while waiting.

The lady is like a the flower queen! You should see her garden.

Whilst playing photographer Mama D and I hit upon an excellent idea. Recall that pizza Linden and I made the other week? Well I had the other half of the dough in the fridge. SCORE! We popped that stuff in the oven, topped it with a little EVOO, sea salt, parm and fresh rosemary for a delicious bread.

Um yes. Make this immediately. And have me over for dinner.

It went excellently with my planned lentil salad.

Spinach, tomato (homegrown, I do eat those raw) and spicy lentils topped with parm. Quite a yumtastic salad.

I may or may not have eaten another slice of bread. Or two.

I am going to bed happy. I have had the most excellent day of eats today. My tummy loves me right now.

Psalm 51:1 (The Message)

Generous in love—God, give grace! Huge in mercy—wipe out my bad record. Scrub away my guilt, soak out my sins in your laundry. I know how bad I’ve been; my sins are staring me down

God loves me too. I can really go to bed happy. Tummy + God love me.

2 thumbs up

I have fully made up for yesterday’s snack fail with two of the most delicious meals EVER!

Tropical Oats

  • 1/4 cup steel cut oats
  • 1/2 cup almond breeze
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 banana
  • 2 pineapple rings
  • 2 dates
  • 4 mandarin oranges
  • chopped pecans
  • coconut

Can you say breakfast success?

Seriously, the crunchy, chewy, fruity mix of these ingredients made the most wonderful bowl of oats ever, bar none.

Check out all those textures!

Now for the second meal success.

I was rooting about in the freezer last night when I stumbled on some tilapia. Cha-ching!

Fish tacos!

  • 1 small piece of tilapia
  • 2 corn tortillas
  • spinach
  • 1 jalapeno
  • creole seasoning
  • Mrs. Dash chipolte lime seasoning
  • Mrs. Dash southwest chipolte seasoning
  • hot sauce

I seasoned the tilapia with the spices and rubbed it with a bit of hot sauce, then cooked it in a pan with the jalapenos until it was white and flaky.

I served it on the tortillas, over a bed of spinach

topped with an ah-mazing + easy peasy sauce.

  • 0% plain greek yogurt
  • Frank’s hot sauce

I just mixed the two ingredients together until I had the desired degree of hotness and poured it over the top.

And because every meal is better with hummus:

Carrot sticks and roasted red pepper hummus on the side.

Can you say heaven?

Now after those fabulous meals, what’s for dinner? I had better get to brainstorming…

QOTD: What is your favorite hot sauce combo?

I think hot sauce goes on anything, but this yogurt + hot sauce stuff rocked! I am trying to come up with as many dishes as possible to eat it with.

PS: Joe and Betsy are having an awesome jeans giveaway. Go check it out!
