Parties are a great source of nutritious eats.
Me + my klassy dinner.
Josh + his klassy dinner.
Also a great source of peeps I love.
Btw, Josh and I are in love. It’s true.
Meredith and Scott are not.
*Note: He did not actually hit her. I am just great with timing. That’s all.
Good thing Meredith and Scott are not in love. She might have to answer to his girlfriend.
Who was busy trying to steal Josh’s meat.
I think that is a good note to end the party recap on. Don’t you?

This morning I awoke to grey skies which put a cramp in my lake plans. Sob story OF MY LIFE! Will these clouds EVER go away?
I made a breakfast of two of my favorite things.
Oikos and Trader Joe’s Trek Mix Granola. The granola is a new fave, but a fave all the same.
It has cranberries, cashews and yummy granola mix. It was a great addition to my strawberry Oikos.
I know, you’ve been looking everywhere for that flavor too. Well I found it!
I also found the Lord. On a back bleacher at the Branch Church early service this morning. Yes I did.
The topic was Perseverance, and the notes read like so:
6 Threats to Perseverance:
- Deadly Drift – Hebrews 2:1 – Motivate yourself to keep going by frequently reviewing the reasons you began.
- Disillusionment – Hebrews 3:12, 14 / Romans 8:31 – Draw the line between stubborn foolishness and perseverance. Develop a conviction through the Word, prayer and peers as to what the will of God is for you. When the will of God is known… Faith comes!
- Stalemate – Hebrews 6:1 – Envision by faith the end result and believe you are moving toward that goal in spite of what you see.
- Laziness – Hebrews 6:11-12 – Force yourself to take some small action toward your goal regularly.
- Isolation – Hebrews 12:1-3 – Don’t go it alone! Draw help from the Lord and those He has placed in your life.
- Self-Pity – Hebrews 12:4 / Romans 8:18 – Pursue your endeavor with a realistic view of the difficulties to be expected. Seek the wisdom of those who have been where you are.
I found a little something in all of the points, but most especially stalemate. I am so bad to get stuck in a rut. In my faith, in my family, in my social life, my career…
It gave me a lot to think about, that’s for sure.
I came home and mused over it while writing this post and enjoying this:
Coffee, stale or not, is always welcome in my life!
Have you ever found yourself stuck in a rut? What did you do to get out?
Hi there!
Great post…I can reallllly relate to all of those points you mentioned! Well I go into more details on my blog, but I was stuck in a rut my second year of university. Ordering take out every night, not leaving the house, not realizing what severe depression I was in (and denial about my weight) I did what I had to do! I moved home…got healthy (with the support of friends and family) I did whatever I had to do…to regain some health! Which included losing 40 pounds and learning about nutrition and fitness! I still have 40 more to go..but yea…whenever I find myself in ruts (which I seem to fairly often) I reevaluate the situation and go over my short/long term goals..give myself a little kick in the hiney and off I go!
Tostitos = delicious! Stuck in a rut mode is something I struggle with too, so you aren’t alone! That trek mix granola from TJ’s looks amazing, might have to find that this week!

I was stuck in a cereal rut. Now I’m in a no-cereal challenge. 🙂
In “life” – I’ve battled depression. Deep, dark, nasty rut. To get out? Force yourself to think positive thoughts. Make yourself acknowledge the positive. Focus on the moments you feel good. Because more often than not those depressed moments aren’t that frequent, it’s just the dwelling/ inability to shake them that make them seem worse. (Not trying to undermine depression anyone out there- it is a big deal and terrible place to be and very hard to get out of – has taken me months of positive steps!)
I am definitely one to get stuck in ruts. I find that doing just ONE thing (big or small) in a new and different way, can help change an entire mindset. I can really relate to the Disillusionment one!
Ahhh! A new Oikos flavor!!!! I’m squeling with excitement over here 🙂 Good thing the guy and I are grocery shopping today woot woot! And coffee will always be a welcome friend in my book too, haha.
Whenever I get in a rut I just mix it up…or sometimes I feel like my “rut” is just because I’m tired so I’ll take a break for a couple of days then get back to it 🙂
And yep, I’ll be there with you and Kath Saturday!
I get stuck in ruts often. I think the best thing to do is look at the situation, re-evaluate, think about what you need to change and then, just do it!
mmm chips are delicious..you can never just have one 😉
I wish dearly that there was a Trader Joe’s near me! Their food looks so good and everyone is always raving about it!
I find myself stuck in ruts every few months or so. If it’s a workout rut, I’ll take a new class at the gym or map out a new running route. If it’s in my social life, I’ll try to contact an old friend and try to make plans to get together for coffee. A career rut is a bit more challenging because there aren’t many things you can change at a job, but sometimes just rearranging your desk or taking your lunch break at a different time of the day can relieve workplace boredom. I hope you find your way out of your ruts soon 🙂
I was stuck in a rut last week, feeling down and feeling like I wasn’t getting anywhere. whenever I get like that I take some extra time to pray and focus my energy on the Lord; he brought me right out of my funk and let me know ”everything was going to be all right”. Trust in Him!!
ohhhh i had lots of good stuff to catch up on!
the photo sesh is awesome – your sister is a BEE-YOU-TI-FUL photographer. all the sittings with the kiddies were ador!

Aww sounds fun!! I agree with jenngirl. Just do one small thing different tomorrow. Or plan one thing to be excited about/look forward too. It kinda changes things up a little.

Great scripture. Perseverance is something I always have to work on. It’s just so easy to give up when times get tough and not work to push through them.
That’s so true. I feel the same montoney and often think that the next big thing in my life will get me out of my gloom, when really, I should be taking the moment to appreicate what I have now and not what I want to come.
Thanks for this reminder Whit! Always so inspiring to read your quick uplifters of scripture. 🙂
Happy your weekend is going splendidly. Take care love!
Thanks for posting this!
I love that you put your notes from church! I am not in a rut right now (that i know of!) but I know that it happens to me often. Whether it be with school, feeling lousy, eating the same stuff… lol.
Love ya, girl! 😀
haha your friend has the hand on hip pose, DOWN, love it 😀
Ooohhh girlfriend i have been in the biggest rut ever since graduating a year ago. Now I’m finally movin out and movin on and takin it to the East Coast!!! So excited, but sometimes it really does take a rut to do a LOT of deep soul searching and find your true calling. For me life is all about passion 😀 Have a great week girlie xo!
Haha, fun party. Your breakfast looks yummy, too! I need to try that strawberry oikos. When I’m in a rut, I force my self to do at least one thing a day to get outside of my comfort zone. Then I work up from there 🙂 Usually, it leads me to new paths.
Whoa, loving that huge bag of chips. 😀 And of course, the slightly healthier yogurt-granola mix. Granola is one of my favorites, no matter what brand it is. Honestly, all granola kind of tastes the same to me.
[…] That’s her with her back to the camera. Scott is the guy sucking up to her. He is also the guy that hit my sister here. […]
Scott looks like Jason from the Hills! You two look very dashing together 😉
