As soon as I saw that Angela (OhSheGlows) had posted a recipe for “SkinnyMini Glo Buns” I knew I would not be long in trying them. I actually had planned to wait until Saturday, but I was in a baking mood when I got home from the gym. I made the Glo Buns and her Flax & Oat Power Muffins.

Glo Buns

Glo Buns

These got rave reviews all around! My mom, dad, and two little sisters loved them! In the words of my four year old sister: “Whitney, dees are ah-licious! My mom and I both sampled one as soon as they came out of the oven. Warm, and oozing a little of the brown sugar… oh so wonderful. Definitely a crowd pleaser. Mine did not turn out quite as fancy as Angela’s but that I am sure has nothing to do with my kitchen prowess!

Flax & Oat Power Muffins

Muffins

These were a hit as well! They are very dense, with a wonderful banana flavor. I can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow, so I can have a whole one and not just the taste pinch that I took off the one in the left corner (shhhh). That Angela sure knows what she is doing in the kitchen! Everything I have tried off her blog I have loved. The great thing about it? All her recipes are packed with good fiber, protein and complex carbs. I will definitely be trying more of her stuff in the future.

I made it!

This is what I have learned during my 30 day journey:

1. Balance (food, gym, work)

2. Sweat, sweat, sweat.

3. Take your lunch to work.

4. To eat asparagus!

The program is very well balanced and has some great recipes, my favorites being the Breakfast Burrito* and the California Chicken Salad with Avocado and Mango. I eat 4 times a day and will continue to do so. At first I was a little hungry as the portions were not as large as I had been allowing myself, but it really paid off, and by the end I did not even notice the portion sizes! All in all, I lost 11 lbs in 30 days and have notice muscle definition all over, but especially in my shoulders and arms. I totally recommend Making the Cut for anyone who has about 10-15 lbs to lose and has the determination to do the workouts AND the diet. The workouts are a huge part of the process. I usually do two rounds of the circuit (it recommends that for a more challenging workout) and then about 15-30 minutes of cardio. In the beginning I only did one round of the circuit training, but about day 10 I decided to up the ante and double the workout. It paid off majorly, so I really recommend that. Of course that does add up to about 1.5 hours in the gym, so if you are pressed for time that may not be feasible. I feel like you would have satisfactory results either way and as with any diet/workout plan you can tailor it to fit your lifestyle.

*Could not find the burrito recipe online, so it is as follows:

1 whole wheat tortilla (Jillian recommends LaTortilla brand)

2 egg whites

cilantro

pepper to taste

1 T. low sodium salsa

2 T. low fat cheese

spray oil or olive oil

Scramble the eggs, cilantro and pepper together in a pan greased with the cooking spray or oil. Warm tortilla in microwave (15-20 seconds). Add egg mixture to tortilla. Top with salsa and cheese. Wrap and eat!

It’s incredibly simple, but absolutely delicious!

As promised I have started the Jillian Michaels ‘Making the Cut’ today. So far it seems to be great (let’s see me in two weeks, huh?)

Breakfast:

Kashi Go-Lean (which is my favorite cereal anyway) and two scrambled egg whites.

Lunch:

A Broccoli, Turkey and Cheese Lavash Wrap. It was actually really, really good, but I used a tortilla instead of lavash. I could not find lavash at Lowes Foods, apparently Lowes is not exotic enough for that.

Snack:

EAS AdvantEdge CarbControl in Chocolate.

Dinner is supposed to be Moroccan Chicken with Wild Rice.

I suppose I shall hit the gym with a fervor only found in the very frail and elderly as I have not been in two weeks. I feel like a part of me is missing or else something is just badly wrong since I have not been doing my daily work outs. I think Jillian Michaels is just what I need to kick my butt back in gear!

In another Jillian note I purchased her Wii fitness game, and my legs did not work properly for two days after I tried it. Of course this also may have been due to their previous lack of work and so they were protesting loudly.
